DOOR SIGNS
Hey Shopkeeper! Hey Concerned Citizen!

Now you can prevent heinous energy waste and spread the conservation message.
Check out these handy door signs. They let people know you're doing your part.

Just download the one that works for you, print it out and stick it up. People on the street might be glad to know you're conserving energy by keeping the A/C off, door open. You'll also avoid unnecessary scoldings from those righteous crusaders swooping in to call you on A/C waste.
For those shops that require A/C (we know, you have a head office), simply keep the door shut and tell people why.

If you see a store that oozes A/C out their double doors, throw a few of these at the manager. Tell them consumer culture is smarter than they think.

Spread the word, FLICK OFF.

Anyone who brings up "Silent Spring" as a reference immediately lacks any scientific credibility. Even the most ardent greenies have distanced themselves from Rachel Carson's flawed and scientifically inaccurate work. In fact, she should be demonized for essentially causing the deaths of millions due to malaria.

"What can it hurt to reduce our emissions?" Reducing our CO2 emissions in the manner suggested by the global warming alarmists will lead to economic chaos. And all this without compelling evidence that CO2 is the culprit.

hey it's kinda silly that there are these wallpapers, cuz putting a black screen conserves more energy that having all those pictures. on that note, instead of using google, u shud use www.blackle.com it saves a lot of energy just because it has a black background... otherwise it's the exact same search engine.

that japan had made some sort of machine or making, that will use a persentage or 2 of earths water to reduce overflow and flooding if global warming does occur ( which should not likely but if so then the world is well just st***d. And whats this about signing a treete about reducing emissions by 50% over the next 5-6 years why dont they just do it now ..dawwwg.

I have a truck which seems to lump me into the evil SUV group for some reason. But, I guess I use my truck sometimes to get me from Point A to Point B, like to buy more compact fluorescent bulbs, or pick up compost for my garden or to get me to the closest park and ride. When I do drive the beast I don't go thru drive-thrus and I don't idle at traffic lights or train crossings. Sometimes, just for fun I'll put my bicycle (the one I ride to work) in the back and drive someplace nice for a bit of recreation. Anyhoo, I'm pretty sure you get where I'm going... not all SUV/Pickup truck owners are driving around trying their hardest to suck up all the non-renewable resources we can. What we take, we often more than make up for in other areas. Everyone has something to offer in fighting what is killing Earth, and like everyone is themselves unique, so is their contribution. Be safe and do what you can however you can.

I agree with you one hundred percent. My family owns a Dodge Ram 1500, so people just assume that we do not care about the environment. We are definately doing our part. My siblings and I all walk a good 25 min to school and back everyday. I take a bus to work instead of driving myself. We never leave the water running, or anything turned on when it is not in use. We do not use air-conditioning in the summer, and in the winter our thermostat never goes higher than 62oF (it kills us yes, but why waste energy when we can throw on a sweater or cozy up under a blanket). We recycle everything we can. If we run out of milk or something like that, instead of driving to the store for one or two items we take a nice walk to Mac's to pick it up. It may be a little pricey, but it is still less than the cost of the gas it would have taken to drive to the store (and it is environmentally friendly).

Don't forget that organic food requires at least twice as much land to grow as crops grown using high yield farming methods. This leads to unnecessary deforestation. If our civilization ever switched over entirely to organic food, everyone would starve because we wouldn't have enough land to grow the crops to feed everyone.

The concentration of man-made pesticides in high yield farming foods is so small, it is dwarfed by the naturally occurring pesticides (equally toxic, I might add) that are produced by the plants themselves.

Once again, please do some research and don't fall for everything hook, line, and sinker that the media tells you.

I don't know about that information.... the first article was basically just a bunch of claims with no backing proof, making statements such as, "Organic food is a politically acceptable way to brag to your neighbors that you can afford to pay double for your food, and smile about it." I have read articles that do show a significant increase of nutrients in organic produce versus ones coated in chemical pesticides, which, though the amounts on each individual fruit or vegetable may be small, who's to say those chemicals aren't building up inside our bodies, causing not only cancers, but many other illnesses and diseases that we don't know the cause of? "Thus, all-organic farming would be more environmentally destructive than replacing the planet’s whole current fleet of 500 million cars with Humvees." -and just where did these figures come from. The guy that wrote the article does not sound accurate or convincing enough to be a scientist who has the knowledge of stating this. He's also in denial of human-caused global warming, which makes him an idiot. I'm not a scientist, but looking outside, it's obvious there are some big changes. I don't know why people are still wasting their time debating it. And what can it hurt to reduce our input of emissions into the environment anyway? As for the other link, I didn't find the "facts" to seem very real. You can't tell me that a plant's naturally produced anti-pest chemical is as bad or worse than coating a plant in man-made chemicals (using very lethal substances, and mixing different pesticides together by spraying with different compounds over the years, letting them all build up in the soil and water sources around the farm. Where do plants get their nutrients?.... from water and soil! These chemicals don't simply just vanish once they've been sprayed.) and then eating it? Natural chemicals (if any) produced by fruits and vegetables (at least the ones we eat) are going to be simpler to break down by our bodies without harming them, than synthethic chemicals. "In a single cup of coffee the natural chemicals that are know rodent carcinogens are about equal in weight to a year's worth of synthetic pesticide residues." (I wonder whether or not they were testing organically grown coffee beans? Because coffee is one of the most heavily sprayed crops! So no wonder the rodents are developing cancers...?) I would highly suggest reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. I think it would discourage you from encouraging the use of synthethic chemicals or supporting the use of them by purchasing food which isn't organic, etc. As well, this book was written in 1962 about the known chemicals in use then, just imagine how many more are in use today. Who knows if they are less toxic or more toxic? This is what the pesticide producing companies don't want anyone to know. Also, here's a site with a brief summary of pesticides...but do your own research...there's lots of info out there, don't just believe something that's being debated for the sole purpose of debate. There are worse things happening in the world than organic farming surely! http://www.gca.ca/indexcms/pdf/What%20you%20should%20know%20about%20pesticides.pdf
