CAUSESCAUSES

Thanks to the greenhouse effect, Earth is a thriving place; unlike Mars, which is pretty much frozen and dead. But when the level of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere becomes so high that the planet shows signs of overcooking, we know there’s a serious problem.

THE PROBLEM

  • We burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas
    to generate electricity

  • Transportation - cars, trucks, aviation - requires fuel. The fuel
    burned emits greenhouse gases.

  • Industrial practices—like the Alberta tar sands—pump out
    serious greenhouse gases.

  • Modern-day agriculture contributes to deforestation while
emitting massive amounts of greenhouse gases.

Yet another report disputes the role of CO2 in global warming. Thankfully, actual hard science seems to be catching up the hysteria.

It came to my notice that all the people out there have this notion that the "near earth temperature" wil rise by 1 to 2 degrees centigrade in the next decade - wrong again it is in fact 30 times worse than than that because any mechanical engineer will confirm that these figures are misrepresentative of the actual situation. Please don't bother me with he said she said attitudes as I am busy and will only talk to informed individuals Thanx Martin

Aero, If you're not too busy....Please point me to the study that proves this ridiculous hysteria you believe in. You're saying the earth's temperature is going to go up 30 degrees Centigrade in the next decade? Pul-eease. Where do you get this stuff?

Hey, Hawk, If we wait for real science from some of these posters, we'll be into the _next_ ice age.

I agree we shouldn't be waiting for something to happen to try and fix it, in general thats just asking for trouble don't learn from your own mistakes learn from others. We know we need to protect the environment, a few things i've done to try and help is getting double glazed windows, better sealing my doors with weather stripping and adding more insulation to my home this helps reduce my heating costs in the winter and cooling costs in the summer.

Turn off things your not using(electricity wise). If your driving somewhere everyone else is going, car pool. these two simple things can help you with protecting our world from global warming.=]. -Ember-

if only everyone else thought the same as you... that would be great. can you imagine how much of a difference we could all make if we just turned off lights, computers and televisions when we weren't really using them. and carpooling too. who wouldn't rather drive in a car with a bunch of your friends instead of by yourself? especially in bumper to bumper traffic! or there is this website, www.erideshare.com, where you can even find other people going the same way as you, to share a ride. it's worth checking out.

Don't be deluded. Man is responsible for only about 3.2% of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Sure, please conserve electricity if only so we have enough of it when we really need it, but don't fool yourself that turning off a few lights is actually going to affect the climate. Get the facts and educate yourself on the fundamental principles of global warming science.
