ROOTSROOTS

Established in 1973 by Don Green and Michael Budman, Roots has embraced environmental issues from the beginning as an essential part of doing business. Much of the inspiration behind Roots is drawn from the great Canadian outdoors.

Historically, Roots published ‘Preserving Our World’ by Warner Troyer, helped launch the Loblaws GREEN environmental products, worked in partnership with David Suzuki Foundation, World Wildlife Fund, is a continuing benefactor for  Robert Kennedy's Waterkeeper Foundation and has worked with Laurie David (producer, Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth) to create Stop Global Warming bracelets (currently over $100,000 raised).

Today, Roots continues to work with the world's leading environmental, private and government organizations to promote sustainability and awareness of environmental issues. Products at Roots have evolved to include: organic cotton, bamboo fibre fabrics and vegetable tanned leather, just to name a few.

Aside from product development Roots is at the forefront of developing sustainable store building practices. This includes using Bamboo flooring, low-wattage lighting, and salvaged building materials whenever possible in new construction.

Roots will continue to look for new ways to make a difference because we all recognize this is only the start.

Roots is proud to use its expertise in design, distribution, and promotion to further environmental awareness by participating in the Flick Off initiative. Roots has produced organic t-shirts, wristbands and other merchandise bearing the distinctive Flick Off logos.  Roots will carry Flick Off merchandise at over 80 Roots stores from coast to coast and at www.roots.com.
